In my acting classes for kids, does it have to be harsh and mean? Absolutely not, ask any southern woman and they will tell you that you can say anything with sugar. My main goal is for them to get the lessons and move forward to the next challenge as quickly as possibly. There is no need to hang on to anything that is not working for them. I try to let them know how easily fixable their particular thing is, how they are not alone in it and that it is their decision to make. Sometimes, in my acting class for kids, we make a game of doing the habit or accent as much as possible, to really lean into it, then to go in the other direction. It allows the actor to really feel or hear it and to experience control over it in a short period of time. That is defiantly a trick I learned from Milton Katselas.
